The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced its Annual Division II Women’s Regional Awards, naming Wayne State University’s Anais Ruyssen as the Midwest Senior Player of the Year. The award is given to the top senior or graduate student in each of eight regions.

The ITA will reveal its National Awards on Tuesday, May 20.

Ruyssen’s recognition follows a successful season with a 17-7 overall singles record and a 12-4 mark in the No. 1 position. In doubles, she achieved 24 wins against nine losses, primarily partnering with Dea Gorgidze. She also finished with a 7-1 record in both singles and doubles against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponents and was named GLIAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year.

Beyond her individual achievements, Ruyssen led Wayne State University to an unbeaten 8-0 record within GLIAC play, securing the regular-season title and finishing second in the conference tournament. The team achieved a 12-1 record within the Midwest Region and secured the No. 11 seed in the NCAA Championships after winning their section of the NCAA Midwest Regional.

Next up for Ruyssen and her team is competition in the NCAA Round of 16 against No. 6-seeded Dallas Baptist University on Wednesday, May 21 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
