Eight members of the Wayne State University men’s and women’s cross country teams have been recognized as All-Academic Athletes by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The announcement was made on January 29. Both the men’s and women’s teams also received All-Academic Team honors.
The women’s team achieved a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.55, while the men’s team posted a GPA of 3.50, tying for 42nd place nationally.
Student-athletes honored from the women’s squad include Robin Bresolin, Anna Gdowski, Aubrey Migoski, Ava Peters, and Emilee Rudlaff. The men’s honorees are Glen Davis, Sean Pettis, and Jared Platt.
Bresolin, an Environmental Science major, has earned this recognition twice and has been named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll eight times. She is involved in several leadership roles at Wayne State University (WSU), including serving on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and participating in community service initiatives. Bresolin finished 28th at the GLIAC Championships and placed 42nd at the NCAA Midwest Regional.
Davis majors in Technology, Information Systems and Analytics. In his first semester at WSU he was named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. He won the Warrior Challenge hosted by Wayne State with a time of 25:08.40, finished 14th at the conference meet earning Second Team All-GLIAC honors, and placed 29th at NCAA Regionals.
Gdowski is an Exercise and Sport Science major who has been recognized on both the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll three times and Coach’s Honor Roll twice. She placed 43rd at her conference meet and finished 76th regionally last season.
Migoski has been named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll seven times and inducted into WSU’s inaugural Chi Alpha Sigma Athlete Honor Society class. This marks her second USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete honor. As a Nursing major she has also twice made it onto the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team.
Peters earned placement on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll during her first semester as an Environmental Science major. She finished second at Wayne State’s Warrior Challenge event, was named Second Team All-GLIAC after placing 15th in her league meet, and came in 28th at regionals.
Pettis studies Information Technology and receives his second USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete honor this year. He earned Second Team All-GLIAC status after finishing 18th in his conference meet and took 37th place regionally.
Platt received a D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award last year as well as selection to GLIAC’s All-Academic Excellence Team. An Exercise and Sport Science major, he has appeared four times on Athletic Director’s Honor Roll; he finished 20th in his conference race earning Second Team All-GLIAC honors, then placed 21st for all-region recognition at NCAA Midwest Regional competition.
Rudlaff is a Nursing major who has been named to Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for three semesters; she finished 32nd in her conference championship race before placing 70th regionally.
According to USTFCCCA criteria: “Individual – In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-30 percent of their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.”
“Team – In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period and compile a team score at their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.”
Wayne State Warriors Men’s Cross Country competes as part of NCAA Division II athletics within Wayne State University based in Detroit, Michigan (official website). The program belongs to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (official website) with athletes from various academic levels ranging from freshmen through graduate students (official website).
