Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order, which offers financial relief to bars and restaurants in the state that are losing money due to COVID-19.
The executive order allows a liquor buy-back program for bars and restaurants that have an on-premise liquor license, according to Patch Detroit. The Michigan Liquor Control Commission can use its funds to buy liquor at full price from these bars and restaurants, but the businesses had to have purchased the alcohol before March 16, Patch Detroit reported.
"Michigan's 8,500 on-premises liquor licensees continue to make unprecedented sacrifices to help slow the spread of COVID-19 across our state," Whitmer said in a statement. "This buy-back program will help our bars and restaurants, critical to Michigan's economy, weather the storm through this challenging time in our history."
After the state lifts the emergency and disaster declarations, restaurants and bars will be allowed 90 days to repurchase the liquor from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, according to Patch Detroit.
