City of Westland issued the following announcement on July 26.
Due to the recent wet weather, the City of Westland is being proactive in its fight against the summer pest through a comprehensive mosquito abatement program. This program is designed to eliminate mosquito larvae in standing water before hatching.
Beginning next week, The Department of Public Service will physically insert Natural G30 WSP Spinosad Briquettes to 7,300 catch basins throughout our community that may pose as a potential mosquito breeding ground. The remainder will be available to Homeowners Associations, residents with ponds and other potential hot spots.
“The City of Westland is committed to keeping our residents healthy and safe. With the recent influx of rain in our community, taking action against mosquitos will help each resident enjoy Michigan’s summers and the amenities offered by our city,” says Mayor William R. Wild.
The City of Westland is treating the catch basins and ditches in an effort to protect residents against mosquitos and their larvae. Having received approval from The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE), residents can expect no harm to surface water quality.
