Wayne-Westland Community School District issued the following announcement on Aug 24.
Students will be heading back to school Monday, August 30, 2021. It's a good time to review the state law on passing school buses that are stopped to load and unload children.
ALL lanes of traffic must stop for a stopped school bus. This applies to both vehicles approaching from the rear and from the opposing lanes unless the opposing lanes of the highway are divided with a center median.
- When a school bus has its lower yellow hazard lights flashing, you may proceed by it with caution.
- When a school bus has its yellow overhead lights flashing, prepare to stop.
- When the red overhead lights are flashing on a school bus, you must stop at least 20 feet away and remain stopped until the lights are turned off.
Let's keep our students and drivers safe!
