Plymouth-Canton Community Schools issued the following announcement on Sept 20.
Mr. Chaka Johnson knows K-12 schools from top to bottom. And while he has worked in a central office role in the past, he is most comfortable helping students and being involved in high school athletics. That’s why Mr. Johnson was a great fit for his new role as Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at Plymouth High School.
Mr. Johnson has spent time as an education consultant with River Rouge School and has held a variety of positions with the Harper Woods School District. Among his roles at the eastside district, he was a special education teacher, coach and athletic director. He even held the role of Community Relations Director/Parent Liaison at the Harper Woods board office. Before he started working in k-12 education, Mr. Johnson held positions as an assistant basketball coach for the University of Detroit Mercy and was a strength and conditioning coach for the University of Minnesota and the Detroit Lions.
He holds three Master’s Degrees, including a Master’s in Educational Administration and a Master of Education in special education from Grand Canyon University in Arizona. He also has a Master’s of Education in kinesiology from the University of Minnesota. His Bachelor's Degree in Communication is from the University of Kansas.
