City of Westland issued the following announcement on Dec 14.
One of the consequences of the recent high wind event is that the trees citywide were virtually stripped of leaves and are now on the ground. Residents in large numbers have been reaching out to city hall to requesting relief as a result of the compost program ending yesterday, December 13th. The City has arranged for Priority Waste, the City's trash hauler, to pick up bagged leaves and tree wastes through December 24, 2021.
In order for Priority Waste to pick up this compost, please place your bagged leaves and tree debris to the curb on your regular trash day and call Priority Waste Monday through Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm at 1-586-228-1200 to tell them that you have a "special pickup of compost".
Be advised that the items collected will not be taken to a compost center as it is closed for the season and will be taken to the landfill as bulk waste instead.
