Mia Edgerson, a compliance officer at the Wayne County prosecutor's office, was recently appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich.) to serve on the State Council for Interstate Adult Offender Supervision. Whitmer announced Edgerson's appointment on March 18.
"Mia is a passionate crusader for victims' rights in the Wayne County prosecutor's office," Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a press release from the county. "She always wants to make sure that our victims have a voice. This is crucially important in an era where the voices of victims are often unceremoniously drowned out in today's criminal justice world. She will be an excellent addition to the State Council for Interstate Adult Offender Supervision."
Edgerson was appointed to the position to fill a vacancy for a term that started in mid-March and expires on October 31, 2025. She has more than 20 years of experience advocating for victims' rights, according to the release. Her responsibilities at the Wayne County prosecutor's office include securing crime victim grants so the office has enough money to ensure victims get the resources they deserve.
Edgerson graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in public administration from Central Michigan University.
Whitmer also appointed Bloomfield Hills-native Aya Takai to the State Council for Interstate Adult Supervision. Takai, a policy advisor for the governor's office, will fill the vacancy to represent the executive branch in a term that expires at the end of October, the release said.
The Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision is responsible for directing the transfer of offenders and takes supervision, public safety, offender countability, and victims' rights into consideration, according to the release.
