Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently announced the renovation of numerous bridge projects in the state that will create jobs.
The bridge-rehabilitation projects will facilitate and include the I-75 bridge in Oakland County, the I-475 bridge in Genesee County and the I-94 bridge in Wayne County, a recent press release from the governor's office said.
"Across Michigan, we are continuing to fix the damn roads, saving motorists time and money," Whitmer said in the release. "Investments like these in Genesee, Oakland and Wayne counties will ensure our bridges and roads are safe for years to come. These projects will support good-paying jobs in these communities and help emergency services, school buses and families get to where they need to go safely and efficiently. My Rebuilding Michigan Plan and the recently enacted Building Michigan Together Plan are helping us fix our roads and bridges with the right mix and materials, making them much less susceptible to our notorious pothole seasons, all without raising taxes by a cent."
Whitmer added that since she has been governor, the state has renovated approximately 13,000 lane miles of road and more than 900 bridges, "supporting nearly 82,000 jobs."
MDOT contract crews have already razed the Grand River overpass above Interstate 94 (I-94) in Detroit, which called for the closing of I-94 from Interstate 75 to Interstate 96 over the weekend, the release said. The work was part of the I-94 Modernization Project that will create 185 jobs.
The Building Michigan Together Plan, a bipartisan initiative, calls for $5 billion in infrastructure improvements in order to facilitate jobs and reinforce the safety of roads and bridges, the release said.
