Motorists in Benzie, Cheboygan, Eaton, Emmet, Genesee and Wayne counties should be mindful of current road developments currently underway.

According to a news release by the governor’s office, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently announced that the roadway projects would bring 4,105 jobs to the area.

“Since I took office through the end of 2022, we will have invested 70% more in our roads than the previous four years to fix over 16,000 lane miles of road and 1,200 bridges, supporting nearly 89,000 jobs,” said Whitmer in the release. “Both my Rebuilding Michigan Plan and the bipartisan Building Michigan Together Plan are helping us build safe, reliable infrastructure that makes a difference for families and small business across the state. I hope you all like orange because you’ll be seeing a lot of cones and barrels this summer. I’m proud of what we have accomplished, so let’s keep moving dirt and getting it done.”

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) projects include another phase of the I-69 Rebuilding Michigan project in Genesee County, the southbound I-375 milling and resurfacing project in Wayne County, the M-22 resurfacing in Benzie County, another phase of work on the I-75 repair and rebuilding project in Cheboygan and Emmet counties and another phase of construction on the I-69 Rebuilding Michigan project in Eaton County.

“Across Michigan, we are fixing the damn roads to save drivers time and money. These investments in Benzie, Cheboygan, Eaton, Emmet, Genesee and Wayne counties will support over 4,105 jobs and help drivers go to work, drop their kids off at school, and run errands safely,” added Whitmer.

The governor’s office reported that for the Southbound I-375 Milling and Resurfacing Project, southbound I-375 had to be closed for work in Detroit that will provide a safer and smoother driving surface for motorists traveling on the roads.
