State of the City highlight:

Making Detroit safer remains a top priority for the administration.

Last November, police officers received a record pay increase which has led to 27 officers graduating from the academy and 25 more returning to the department – with more requests every day. These returning officers are joining a coordinated law enforcement effort with federal agencies to make Detroit a safer place.

In addition, Detroit is making a $10 million commitment to a new violence prevention initiative. “Shotstoppers” will consist of community activist groups with a proven track record of working with those engaged in gun violence.

To start, organizations will receive a 2-year contract for $700,000 per year and will be measured on whether violence decreases in their community.
