Our Community Laundromat, LLC is now open in Detroit's Bethune Community neighborhood. Constructed by minority developers, the facility boasts 40+ washers and dryers, comfortable seating, and a range of fabric detergents and softeners.
The new establishment is more than a laundromat; owner La Cesha Brintley aims to create a safe space for the community, with initiatives like the "Wash and Read" program for kids and priority services for seniors every Tuesday - that includes food and entertainment. The facility also supports local small businesses by offering free pop-up shop space.
Awarded a $75,000 grant, it's the 145th brick-and-mortar opened by Motor City Match, which has assisted over 1,600 businesses.
Mayor Mike Duggan said, "Small businesses are what help make the fabric of a community, and nowhere is that more the case than what La Cesha is doing with Our Community Laundromat.”
