In recognition of those households that have made efforts to enhance the local environment by creating rain gardens, native plant gardens and pollinator gardens, the City Beautiful Commission initiated a special category within the Residential Standard of Excellence (RSOE) Awards program this year.
The special category is necessary because often these types of gardens may not look like landscaping traditionally chosen for RSOE awards. The gardens are instead noteworthy because of their positive effects on public health and the local, shared environment.
The City Beautiful Commission, with direction from Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud, is promoting green initiatives that create these sustainable environmental structures to reduce pollution, assist with stormwater management, preserve water systems and promote beneficial resources.
The honorees in this special category will receive the same distinctive window decal as those homes selected in the overall RSOE program.
