The City of Detroit's Construction & Demolition Department is preparing for the construction of the Chandler Park Fieldhouse, a state-of-the-art facility that will enhance recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. In order to begin construction, fencing will be erected around the construction area starting on Monday, December 18th.

LaJuan Counts, the executive director of the Construction & Demolition Department, expressed his gratitude to the Detroit City Council, Mayor Duggan, and the Construction and Demo Team for their commitment to building a brighter future for the community. He emphasized that transparency is essential to progress in Detroit.

Chandler Park, located in District 4, covers approximately 200 acres and offers a wide range of outdoor activities such as a golf course, aquatic center, tennis courts, softball fields, walking paths, gardens, a fitness zone, and basketball courts. With the addition of the Chandler Park Fieldhouse, the city is taking a significant step forward in providing year-round indoor recreation and athletic opportunities.

The Chandler Park Fieldhouse will be a sprawling 130,000 square feet indoor sporting event community building and will serve as both an event and public assembly center. It will fill a crucial gap in the city's recreational services, providing a haven for sports enthusiasts of all ages and outside vendors. The fieldhouse will feature a multi-use court for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball, a football field and track, multi-purpose rooms for various activities, administrative spaces, shower rooms, and inclusive bathrooms for user comfort. Additionally, a 200+ space parking lot with bio-swales will be included for sustainable storm-water management.

The City of Detroit's Construction and Demolition Department is proud to partner with L.S. Brinker, a Detroit-based contractor certified as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), on this project.

Construction of the Chandler Park Fieldhouse is an exciting development for the City of Detroit and its residents. It will provide a state-of-the-art facility for indoor sports and events, further enhancing the recreational landscape of Chandler Park. The fencing that will be put up marks the beginning of this important construction project, bringing the city one step closer to a brighter future for the community.
