The City of Detroit’s Construction & Demolition Department is thrilled to announce preparation for construction at the brand-new Chandler Park Fieldhouse, a state-of-the-art facility set to enhance the recreational landscape for residents and visitors alike.

Fencing will go up surrounding the construction area beginning Monday, Dec. 18.

"Transparency is the cornerstone of progress, and our commitment to a better Detroit,” said LaJuan Counts, executive director of the Construction & Demolition Department. “As we anticipate commencement of this state-of-the-art facility, I extend heartfelt gratitude to the Detroit City Council, Mayor Duggan for his leadership, and our dedicated Construction and Demo Team. Together, we're building not just a structure, but a brighter future for our community."

Chandler Park, spanning approximately 200 acres at 12801 Chandler Park Drive in District 4, has long been a hub for diverse outdoor activities, boasting a golf course, aquatic center, tennis courts, softball fields, walking paths, gardens, a fitness zone, basketball courts, and more. Now, with the addition of the Chandler Park Fieldhouse, the city is taking a giant leap forward in providing year-round indoor recreation and athletic opportunities.

The Chandler Park Fieldhouse, a sprawling 130,000 square feet indoor sporting event community building, will be the crown jewel of the park. Designed to serve as both an event and public assembly center, the fieldhouse will fill a crucial gap in the city's recreational services, offering a haven for sports enthusiasts of all ages and outside vendors.

Key features of the Chandler Park Fieldhouse include:

  • Multi-use court for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball
  • Football field and track for comprehensive sports offerings
  • Multi-purpose rooms for diverse activities
  • Administrative spaces for efficient management
  • Shower rooms and inclusive bathrooms for user comfort
  • 200+ space parking lot with bio-swales for sustainable storm-water management
The City of Detroit’s Construction and Demolition Department is also pleased to partner on this project with Detroit-based contractor L.S. Brinker – a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) certified organization.
