The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) has joined forces with the Michigan Science Center to promote literacy and education in the community. As part of this partnership, DWSD is distributing over 1,000 books to students of the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) and members of the public.

To kick off the book-giveaway program, DWSD employees gathered at the Michigan Science Center to read three educational books to Detroit students. These books, created by DC Water and licensed by DWSD, not only provide valuable educational content but also celebrate Black History Month by featuring black and brown character leads and people of color in prominent positions.

In addition to receiving the books, DPSCD students and members of the public will also receive goody-bags filled with DWSD merchandise and educational materials. The goody-bags include a DWSD toy, a DWSD sticker, as well as materials for adults on water saving tips, plumbing tips, and answers to frequently asked questions.

Throughout the month of February, DWSD will continue to host book reading events, which are open to the whole family. These events provide an opportunity for children and their families to engage with DWSD employees and learn about the importance of water conservation and plumbing tips.

"We are excited to partner with the Michigan Science Center to promote literacy and education in our community," said [DWSD spokesperson]. "By providing children with access to educational books and resources, we hope to inspire a love for reading and learning."

The partnership between DWSD and the Michigan Science Center not only highlights the importance of education but also emphasizes the value of community engagement. By actively participating in events like book readings, DWSD employees are able to connect with the community and foster positive relationships.

The book-giveaway program and book reading events are just some of the many initiatives undertaken by DWSD to make a positive impact in the community. By collaborating with organizations like the Michigan Science Center, DWSD is able to extend its reach and contribute to the educational development of Detroit's youth.

As the month of February progresses, DWSD looks forward to continuing its efforts to promote literacy and education in Detroit. Through partnerships and community engagement, DWSD aims to inspire a love for reading and learning among the city's young residents.

[Quote from DWSD spokesperson]: "We believe that education is a powerful tool for empowering our community. By providing children with access to educational books and resources, we hope to make a positive impact in their lives and inspire a lifelong love for learning."

The collaboration between DWSD and the Michigan Science Center serves as a shining example of the positive outcomes that can be achieved when organizations come together for the betterment of the community. By working hand in hand, they are able to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Detroit's students and residents.
