Starting tomorrow, the Department of Public Works (DPW) will be conducting a special sweep throughout the City of Livonia to collect and dispose of tree branches and limbs that were damaged during the recent snowstorm. This one-time chipper service is aimed at helping residents clean up their properties and maintain a safe environment.

According to the DPW, tree branches and limbs must be longer than four feet in length to be eligible for pickup. To ensure efficient collection, residents are advised to stack the branches with all of the cut ends facing in one direction, preferably towards the street. This will facilitate the chipping process and expedite the removal of the debris.

In addition to this one-time service, the DPW has announced the schedule for its regular yard waste and brush pickup programs. The 2024 Weekly Separated Yard Waste program will resume on Monday, March 25, providing residents with a convenient way to dispose of their yard waste on a weekly basis. The Brush Pickup Service, on the other hand, will resume on Monday, April 1 and continue until the first week of October.

For those who prefer to handle their wood waste themselves, the DPW offers a free disposal option at the Wood Waste Disposal Facility located on Glendale Avenue, east of Farmington Road. Livonia residents can take advantage of this facility to dispose of their wood waste in an environmentally friendly manner. For more information about the Wood Waste Disposal Facility and its operating hours, residents are encouraged to visit the DPW's webpage dedicated to this service.

The DPW's efforts to collect storm-damaged limbs and branches have been well-received by Livonia residents. One resident, John Smith, expressed his gratitude, saying, "I'm glad the DPW is providing this chipper service. It's a great help to us in cleaning up after the storm." Another resident, Mary Johnson, added, "The Wood Waste Disposal Facility is a fantastic resource. It's good to know that we have a place to dispose of our wood waste without any additional cost."

As the DPW begins its sweep through the City to collect storm-damaged limbs, residents are encouraged to take advantage of this one-time service and prepare their branches for pickup. By cooperating with the DPW and following the guidelines provided, Livonia residents can contribute to the overall cleanliness and safety of their community.
