The Detroit Fire Department is excited to announce the opening of registration for their first-ever Professional Development Conference (PDC), in collaboration with the Detroit Public Safety Foundation and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The conference will take place at the DoubleTree – Fort Shelby from July 10-12, 2024.

The PDC aims to provide a comprehensive platform for fire service professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills in various areas impacting the fire service industry. The conference will feature a wide range of educational sessions, workshops, and demonstrations, covering topics such as employee health and well-being, equity and inclusion, and bullying.

"We are thrilled to host our inaugural Professional Development Conference," said Executive Fire Commissioner Charles Simms. "This conference will not only allow us to share valuable insights and expertise among professionals but also reflect on the systemic changes within the Detroit Fire Department and the impact that transformational leadership has had on our organization and our service to the citizens of the City of Detroit."

The conference will kick off with a panel discussion led by Executive Fire Commissioner Charles Simms, where he will shed light on the transformative changes within the Detroit Fire Department. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from Simms' rich experience and gain valuable insights into the department's progress.

One of the highlights of the conference will be a keynote presentation by Dr. Daniel Kistner, an industry leader and innovator in firefighter safety and health, adaptive leadership, professionalism, and prehospital medical services. Dr. Kistner's address will focus on the challenges of culture change in the fire service, providing attendees with an inspiring and informative session.

In addition to the educational sessions, the conference will also feature exhibitions, where companies and organizations will showcase their latest products, services, and technologies related to fire safety and emergency response. This will be an excellent opportunity for attendees to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in the industry.

"We encourage fire service professionals from across the state and region to attend this special event," said a spokesperson from the Detroit Public Safety Foundation. "The conference will not only provide valuable learning opportunities but also create a platform for networking and collaboration among professionals in the fire service industry."
