Residents in Metro Detroit who suffered damage from the August 2023 severe storms are being encouraged to apply for FEMA disaster assistance before the deadline on Monday, April 8, 2024. According to FEMA, homeowners and renters in several counties with uninsured or underinsured damage are eligible for assistance.
"If you already made repairs or started your recovery, you can still apply," FEMA stated. The agency also clarified that receiving a letter of ineligibility does not necessarily mean applicants cannot expect help, as additional information or documents may be required to keep the application process moving.
For those seeking assistance, applications can be submitted online at gov, through the FEMA Mobile App, or by calling 800-621-3362. Residents can also visit two Disaster Recovery Centers in Detroit – Kemeny Recreation Center and Butzel Family Center – which are open Monday through Saturday from 8 AM to 6:30 PM.
FEMA emphasized that the deadline for applications is approaching but will continue to accept appeals and assist applicants with questions even after the deadline has passed. Special services are available for individuals who speak different languages or require communication assistance when interacting with FEMA personnel.
