Mayor Mike Duggan is set to deliver his 11th annual State of the City address at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. The event, which is by invitation only, will be livestreamed on various City platforms, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the Mayor's address scheduled for 7 p.m.
Reflecting on the City's progress since his first address in 2014, when Detroit was facing bankruptcy and struggling to provide basic services, the Mayor stated, "Since that time, the City has seen historic rises in property values alongside comparable reductions in crime and unemployment, while shifting from a strategy solely of removing blight to one of also creating beauty through renovated parks, neighborhood streetscapes, public art and renovated vacant historic buildings."
The upcoming address comes ahead of the NFL Draft, expected to draw hundreds of thousands to the city to witness its ongoing fiscal and neighborhoods revitalization. The Mayor's speech will provide insight into the City's achievements and future plans.
For those unable to attend in person, the State of the City address can be viewed on various City of Detroit platforms, including Channel 21 (Comcast), Channel 99 (AT&T), the City's website (detroitmi.gov), Facebook (facebook.com/CityofDetroit/), and YouTube (youtube.com/cityofdetroit).
