The Detroit Taxpayer Service Center is set to host a resource fair aimed at providing information on property taxes, programs, and other resources to assist homeowners in avoiding the risk of foreclosure. The event, scheduled for Friday, April 12 from 3-6 p.m. at Roberto Clemente Recreation, 2631 Bagley St. in southwest Detroit, will see various agencies and departments coming together to address questions and concerns from the community.
Among the participants at the fair will be the City of Detroit Treasury, Wayne County Treasurer’s Office, Office of the Assessors/Board of Review, Housing and Revitalization Department, Detroit Health Department, and Detroit Water & Sewerage Department, to name a few. Attendees can expect to receive information on current and delinquent property taxes, property tax programs such as the Plan Ahead Program and the Homeowners Property Tax Exemption (HOPE) program, as well as details on Primary Residence Exemptions (PREs). Additionally, guidance on home improvement loans, utility assistance/programs, and convenient tax payment methods will be provided.
Nikhil Patel, City of Detroit Chief Deputy CFO and Treasurer, emphasized the significance of home ownership for Detroit residents, stating, “We know how important home ownership is for Detroiters and this Taxpayer Resource Fair is a way to share and connect residents to vital programs and other resources that will help in maintaining home ownership.”
