Wayne State women's track achieves high academic honors

DETROIT -- The 2023-24 Wayne State University women's indoor track and field team achieved 27 GLIAC All-Academic honorees, nearly matching the previous school record of 28 from the 2022-23 indoor season. The 19 Excellence Team recipients equaled the school record total from last year. Over the past four years, the WSU women's indoor track and field team has accumulated 92 All-Academic honorees.

Graduate student Emily Esker (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin), redshirt seniors Thailyia Christensen (Flushing, Mich.), Katherine Ray (Novi, Mich.), Mikayla Williams (St. Charles, Mich.), senior Mikaela Owen (Bridgman, Mich.), juniors Robin Bresolin (LaSalle, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova), Natalie Davies (Chelsea, Mich.), Mattie Drennan (Clarkston, Mich.), Renae Kutcha (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi), Layla Martini (Casnovia, Mich. / Kent City) and Makenzie Wellner (Menominee, Mich.), redshirt sophomore Richelle Cotter (Mt. Morris, Mich. / Flint Carman-Ainsworth), and sophomores Hanne Bastiaansen (Tessenderlo, Belgium), Sarah Greb (Washington, Mich. / Romeo), Emmanuela Johnson (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Chippewa Valley), Aubrey Migoski (Wyandotte, Mich. / Roosevelt), Idalia Shadhaya (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Sterling Heights [Career Prep Center]), Briana Vojinov (Brownstown, Mich. / Woodhaven) and Avery Wilson (Davison) were named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5.

Christensen ("Marketing - 3.88"), Ray ("Sport Management - 3.73") and Williams ("Management - 3.83") were recognized for the fourth consecutive indoor season. Esker ("master's in Mathematical Statistics - 3.76") and Owen ("Management - 3.95") each earned All-Academic Excellence Team honors for the third consecutive indoor season.

Bresolin ("Environmental Science - 3.83"), Davies ("Journalism - 3.91"), Drennan ("Exercise & Sport Science - 4.00"), Kutcha ("Marketing - 3.55"), Martini ("Environmental Science - 3.83") and Wellner ("Nursing - 3.85") each collected their second straight indoor Excellence Team recognition.

Bastiaansen ("Global Studies - 3.76"), Cotter ("Exercise & Sport Science - 3.59"), Greb ("Biochem & Chemical Biology - 3.62"), Johnson ("Public Affairs - 3.97"), Migoski ("Nursing - 3..86"), Shadhaya ("Nursing - .93."), Vojinov("Criminal Justice- .80.")and Wilson("Nutrition Food Science.-4..0.)are recipients in their first season eligible
