Wayne State men's golf leads GLIAC in academic honors

Ten members of the 2023-24 Wayne State University men's golf program have received GLIAC All-Academic honors. This marks the second consecutive year that Wayne State has led the GLIAC in this category. The team placed five student-athletes on both the All-Academic Excellence Team, for those with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and the All-Academic Team, for those with a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49. Over the past eight years, the men's golf squad has had 81 GLIAC All-Academic honorees.

According to GLIAC criteria, to be eligible for these honors, student-athletes must be active members on their team's roster at the end of the season and cannot be freshmen or first-year transfer students.

The following are selections for the All-Academic Excellence Team:

- Tyler Hurtubise, Jr., Essex, Ont./Essex District, Sport Management, 3.53 (second consecutive year)

- Max O'Rourke, R-Jr., Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Northern , Finance Honors, 3.89 (third consecutive year)

- Ian Smith, Sr., Canton, Mich./Plymouth, Marketing, 3.63 (third consecutive year)

- Conor Spencer, R-Jr., Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi, Marketing, 3.72 (third consecutive year)

- Chris Yousif, Sr., Finance major from Commerce Township's Detroit Catholic Central High School with a GPA of 3.75 (third consecutive year)

Selections for the All-Academic Team include:

- Adam Burghardt: R-So., Finance major from New Baltimore's Warren De La Salle High School with a GPA of 3.31 (second consecutive year)

- Harrison Chapman: R-Fr., Sport Management major from Marshall High School with a GPA of 3.29 (first-year eligible)

- Mat Hawryluk: Sr., Marketing major from Chatham's Ursuline College Chatham with a GPA of 3.45 (third consecutive year)

- Max Leppelmeier: Jr., Management major from Wauseon's Pettisville High School with a GPA of 3.32 (second consecutive year)

- Peter Stassinopoulos: R-Fr., Management major from Novi's Detroit Catholic Central High School with a GPA of 3.29 (first-year eligible)

The Wayne State University Department of Athletics concluded the academic year with a total of 253 GLIAC All-Academic honorees.
