DETROIT -- As the 2024 Wayne State University football team approaches the new season, Coach Pat Fogarty, Jr. provided insights into the tight ends roster despite the departure of Nathaniel Eberly-Rodriguez to Tennessee-Chattanooga via the transfer portal.

Redshirt junior John Rayba returns following a season in which he earned Honorable Mention All-GLIAC recognition. He participated in all 11 games and made nine starts, recording six receptions for 66 yards.

Redshirt senior Tommy Guajardo, who previously played at Michigan State and Bowling Green, appeared in four games mainly on special teams last year to earn his first collegiate letter.

Additionally, redshirt sophomore Nick Ostas saw action at tight end in 10 contests and made his only start against Michigan Tech. Notre Dame College transfer Jeremiah Drake also joins the roster after playing six games for the Falcons before the college closed this past May.

Redshirt sophomore Gabe Mendoza contributed on special teams (kickoff return) last year, while redshirt freshman Jobe Benschoter is expected to compete for playing time this season.

Other position previews include those for running backs, defensive line, defensive backs, quarterbacks, offensive line, linebackers, and wide receivers.
