DETROIT -- Head coach Ryan Kelley and the Wayne State University baseball program have announced the date for the 2024 open tryout, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Harwell Field on the north side of the athletic campus.

The tryout is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled full-time for the Fall 2024 semester at Wayne State. To be considered full-time, undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 credits and graduate students must be enrolled in at least nine credits. Additionally, players must bring proof of insurance and present proof of a physical exam within the last six months or have a physical on file with the WSU Sports Medicine Department.

All tryout participants must complete an NCAA sickle-cell trait form (PDF) and submit the results of the trait test. Players must also bring a glove and equipment for the tryout. Note that metal cleats are not allowed on AstroTurf, and it is recommended that players wear baseball pants.

Interested students should RSVP to WSU baseball assistant coach Eric Bezel at hb6130@wayne.edu. In the email, identify the primary position you are interested in trying out for, the high school you attended and graduation year, whether you throw right or left-handed, and whether you bat right or left-handed.
