Wayne State University's men's golf team secured a victory at Hillsdale's Get To Foundation Invitational, marking their first two tournament wins of the season for the first time in 11 years. The Warriors triumphed in a 10-team field with a three-round score of 879 (+15), edging out Findlay by one stroke.

"This is one of the best wins in school history as we battled one man down all day yesterday and then even though Adam played, he wasn't at full strength," said head coach Mike Horn. "Outstanding play from Tyler (Hurtubise) and Luc (Warnock) finishing in the top five. Tyler actually finished only one shot outside the playoff. I'm really proud of all the guys, especially the guys that stepped up at the last minute to fill in for Max (Leppelmeier) and Mat (Hawryluk). We send our condolences out to the Hawryluk family for their loss of Mat's grandfather. Super impressed with Adam (Burghardt) battling today with his back injury. This team has unlimited potential if they can do what they did the last three days and still come out with the win, it says it all! If we clean up our putting, it's going to be a very memorable year. Jokes aside, let's roll, Wayne!"

The Warriors last topped leaderboards in consecutive events during September 2013-14 season and achieved back-to-back first-place finishes in October of the 2019-20 schedule.

During this week's tournament at The Cardinal at Saint John's, Wayne State improved each round with scores of 299 (+11), 295 (+7), and 285 (-3). Their final round score was notably the best by any team by an 11-stroke margin.

Individually, Tyler Hurtubise led Wayne State with a tie-for-third finish among 60 golfers after climbing 13 spots on day two. He posted a score of 217 (+1). Luc Warnock also placed in the top five with a score of 218 (+2).

Ian Smith tied-for-11th with a score of 221 (+5), while Josh DiCarlo tied-for-16th at 223 (+7). Andrew Daily competed individually and tied-for-37th with a score of 233 (+17). Despite an injury on day one, Adam Burghardt completed just the third round with a two-over-par score on Tuesday.

The Warriors aim to maintain their momentum as they prepare for their next event, Motor City Shakedown, scheduled for Sept. 30-Oct.1 at TPC Michigan in Dearborn.
