The Wayne State University men's golf team achieved a notable milestone by winning its third consecutive tournament on Tuesday, marking the first time since the 2019-20 season. The Warriors topped the leaderboard at their own Motor City Shakedown with a two-day score of 567 (-9, 290-277), finishing ten strokes ahead of Saginaw Valley State. WSU's round two score of 277 is the team's second-best 18-hole score in the past 21 years.

Tyler Hurtubise from Essex, Ontario, claimed his first individual title and fifth top-10 finish as a Warrior. Hurtubise scored a 140 (-4, 70-70), marking his lowest career 36-hole total.

"I am almost at a loss for words," said head coach Mike Horn. "What an outstanding comeback again today. The boys put the pedal to the metal and hit the gas today! Fantastic rounds from Matty Ice (Mat Hawryluk), Max Leppelmeier, Josh Lahner and Shawn Sehra. What an awesome way to pick up his first victory in college, congratulations to Tyler Hurtubise on an outstanding two days with a four-under-par. We are definitely living dangerously by having to come back on the last day, but these guys have done it three tournaments in a row and now we stand at 30 and 0."

"Huge shout out to Mo Makki, Steve Booth and Chad Johnson for helping bring the Warriors as well," added Horn. "Another win! Thanks to Marissa (Krynak), Lisa (Erickson) and Lydia (Lee) for helping with the event as well. What a great team victory on our home turf. We are going to get ready for Findlay in two weeks where we'll try to keep it going."

Redshirt senior Josh DiCarlo from Amherstburg, Ontario, finished as runner-up with a score of 142 (-2, 70-72). This marks his second top-10 showing of the season and eleventh of his career. Mat Hawryluk from Chatham, Ontario tied-for-fifth with a score of 144 (E, 78-66), moving up thirty spots in individual rankings.

Max Leppelmeier from Wauseon, Ohio tied-for-seventh with a score of 145 (+1, 75-70). He moved up nine spots on day two along with Josh Lahner from Roselle, Illinois who shot a score of 147 (+3, 76-71) tying-for-fifteenth place. Ian Smith from Canton, Michigan tied-for-twenty-fifth place with a score of 150 (+6).

The All-Tournament Team included Peter Blazevic (Parkside), Josh DiCarlo (Wayne State), Mat Hawryluk (Wayne State), Tyler Hurtubise (Wayne State), Jiseung Choi (Saginaw Valley State), and Arthur Ylitalo (Northern Michigan).

Wayne State's "B" team finished eighth at twenty-eight over par (604). Members included Shawn Sehra who tied-for-eleventh with a score of 146 (+2), Andrew Daily who tied-for-twenty-fifth with a score of 150 (+6), Luc Warnock who tied-for-thirty-sixth with a score of 155 (+11), Harrison Chapman who tied-for-thirty-eighth with a score of 156 (+12), Chandler Stodolak who placed fiftieth with a score of 164 (+20) and Tommy Gebeck who placed fifty-first with a score of 166 (+22).

Next on Wayne State's schedule is Findlay's Doc Spragg Fall Invitational on October 14-15 at Findlay Country Club in Ohio.
