Wayne State ties for eighth at William Beall Fall Classic

The Wayne State University women's golf team concluded their participation in the William Beall Fall Classic at Findlay, Ohio, tying for eighth place. The team completed the tournament with a score of 913 (+49), improving their position over the two-day event. Claudia Portillo led the Warriors, finishing tied for seventh individually with a score of 218 (+2). Portillo has consistently been a top performer for WSU this season, achieving top-10 finishes in three out of four tournaments.

In individual standings among 93 participants, Portillo scored 76-71-71. Ting-Yu Kuo finished tied for 32nd with a score of 230 (+14), Orianna Bylsma tied for 50th at 235 (+19), and both Sophia Wygonik and Sabel Imesch tied for 61st with scores of 238 (+22).

The host team, Findlay Oilers, won by a margin of 12 strokes at six over par. Following them were Missouri-St. Louis (+18), Lynn University (+33), Tiffin University (+35), Ashland University (+41), and Findlay's "B" team also at +41. Amelia Ruiz from Lynn claimed Medalist Honors at two under par.

Looking ahead, Wayne State will compete next in the Davenport Panther Invitational on October 12-13 at Stonehedge North Golf Course in Augusta, Michigan. This venue is set to host the GLIAC Championships in 2025. Last year, WSU emerged victorious in this tournament.
