Senior Tyler Hurtubise and freshman Claudia Portillo from Wayne State University have been recognized as the GLIAC Male and Female Golfers of the Week, respectively. The announcement was made by the league on Wednesday.

Hurtubise's recognition marks his first career GLIAC weekly distinction. He secured Medalist Honors in a competition involving 54 participants on Tuesday at Wayne State's Motor City Shakedown held at TPC Michigan in Dearborn, Michigan. This achievement marked his first individual title and fifth top-10 finish as a member of the Warriors. The Ontario native recorded a score of 140 (-4, 70-70), marking his lowest 36-hole total to date. His round of 70 is just two shots shy of his personal best set during Hillsdale's Get To Foundation Invitational on September 17.

Portillo earned her second recognition this season, following her previous accolade last week. She tied for seventh place among 93 players at Findlay's William Beall Fall Classic on Tuesday at Findlay Country Club in Ohio. Portillo achieved this with a score of 218 (+2, 76-71-71). She has been Wayne State's top finisher in three out of four tournaments this season, all resulting in top-10 finishes. Her achievements include earning Medalist Honors at the inaugural Warrior Invitational held on September 23-24.

This is only the second time Wayne State has swept the conference's weekly honors since Mat Hawryluk and Inja Fric did so on September 26, 2023.

Looking ahead, the men's team will participate in Findlay's Doc Spragg Fall Invitational scheduled for October 14-15. Meanwhile, the women's team will compete in their final fall event at the Davenport Panther Invitational from October 12-13.
