The Wayne State University football team is set to begin its conference play with an away game against the Michigan Tech Huskies in Houghton, Michigan. This will be Wayne State's third road game of the season, following extensive travel over the past two weekends.

Wayne State aims for a victory in their GLIAC opener on the road, a feat they last achieved in 2016 with a win at Northwood. The team's all-time record against Michigan Tech stands at 20-13.

Michigan Tech enters this matchup with a 3-1 record after a decisive win over Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Huskies are led by head coach Dan Mettlach, who took over in November 2022 and has been part of the coaching staff since 2017. Senior quarterback Alex Fries leads their offense, having thrown for over 1,000 yards and earning accolades for his performance.

Wayne State has shown strength in recovering fumbles this season, tying for first place in the GLIAC alongside Ferris State and Michigan Tech. Receiver Manny Harris is emerging as a key player after an impressive showing against Truman State.

Kicker Griffin Milovanski continues his streak of successful field goals inside 50 yards and ranks among active Division II kickers for field goals made. On defense, linebacker Justin Hart stood out during his first start with a game-high tackle count.

The Warriors face another challenging schedule this year after navigating one of Division II's toughest slates last season. They will encounter several top-ranked teams including Ferris State and Grand Valley State.

Wayne State’s roster includes experienced players like Aidan Tweedy and Charles Wesley on the offensive line but also features many new faces due to recent debuts from various athletes across early-season games.

For those unable to attend games live, broadcasts are available through WDTK - The Patriot or online streaming via FloSports. Veteran broadcasters Sean Baligian and Brady Beedon provide commentary throughout the season along with other contributors during specific matchups.
