Wayne State volleyball triumphs over Lake Superior State in straight sets

Wayne State University's volleyball team secured a decisive victory against Lake Superior State on Saturday, improving their record to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in the GLIAC. The Warriors won in straight sets with a hitting percentage of .280, marking their highest efficiency on the road this season.

Head coach Tim Koth commented on the team's performance, stating, "We played a clean match today against a very competitive team from Lake State." He highlighted Katie Smith's standout performance, saying it was "one we knew was coming, but it was great to finally see."

The match concluded with Wayne State defeating Lake Superior State 3-0. The Warriors achieved 41 kills with only 13 errors out of 100 total attacks. In contrast, the Lakers managed 32 kills but committed 23 errors on 114 swings. Wayne State's most efficient set was the third, where they hit .345.

Kayla Giroux led the team with 11 kills, continuing her streak of matches with double-digit kills. Katie Smith delivered an impressive performance with a personal best hitting percentage of .615 from eight kills and no errors in 13 attempts. Ella Uganski also contributed significantly over the week with a hitting percentage of .444.

Kendyl Andrews excelled defensively by leading all players with 23 digs, setting a new season high for herself.

Key contributors for Wayne State included Kayla Dulgar who provided 30 assists and Kendyl Andrews who served two aces.

Wayne State is set to host No.16 Grand Valley State next Thursday at Matthaei.
