Wayne State women's cross country triumphs at SVSU Red October meet

The Wayne State University women's cross country team concluded its 2024 regular season with a victory at the Saginaw Valley State University Red October 6K meet. The team secured first place with a total of 28 points, outperforming Alma, which finished second with 47 points. The host Cardinals scored 69 points, and Olivet ended with 90 points.

Coach Lofdahl praised the team's performance: "Our women had an excellent race. They had a nice course to compete on, a perfect weather day, and they took full advantage of it." He highlighted Sarah Greb's focus during the race, Remi Flanz's growing confidence and personal record (PR), Meagan Verellen's improvements, and Natalie Davies' PR achievement after two years. "I'm very proud of these women, and seeing them get a win today was awesome," Lofdahl added.

Wayne State dominated the top-three positions in team scoring. Redshirt sophomore Sarah Greb from Washington, Mich., placed second with a time of 24:11.90. Freshman Remi Flanz from Eastpointe, Mich., followed in third place at 24:30.90, while senior Natalie Davies from Chelsea, Mich., secured fourth place with a time of 24:36.10.

Redshirt freshman Meagan Verellen from Shelby Township, Mich., finished in 11th place overall at 25:10.70. Senior Layla Martini from Casnovia, Mich., came in 13th overall with a time of 25:20.00.

Additional runners for Wayne State included redshirt sophomore Rachel Felstow from Leonard, Mich., who placed 15th at 25:36.50, and freshman Annalise Elliott from Sparta, Mich., who finished in the 22nd position at 26:45.60.

Looking ahead, Wayne State will participate in the GLIAC Championships on Saturday, October 26th at Ferris State Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.
