The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team triumphed over Davenport in their first GLIAC dual of the 2024-25 season. The competition took place at the Matthaei Natatorium, where Wayne State emerged victorious by winning nine out of thirteen events, securing a final score of 135-103.
Head coach Sean Peters praised both teams for their performances. "The Wayne State and Davenport meet featured a lot of excellent performances all around," he said. "I commend our opponents for a very strong showing, and the Warriors were challenged in many areas. I was very delighted with how we responded to those challenges, and excited about the many strong performances the Warriors put up tonight."
Victorious athletes from Wayne State included Khalil Ben Ajmia, Olin Charnstrom, Gabriel Arias, Trevor Jones, and Julio Osuna. Notably, Osuna set pool records during both his events.
Among the events won by Wayne State were the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:32.20 featuring Olin Charnstrom, Joey Dombkowski, Josh Mahaney, and Leland Curanovic; the 1000 free by Khalil Ben Ajmia with a time of 9:36.61; and the 3-meter diving event by Julio Osuna who scored 374.18 points setting a pool record.
Looking ahead on their schedule after an Alumni Meet on November 1st is a home tri-meet on November 9th against Northern Michigan and Findlay.
