DETROIT -- Four student-athletes from the 2023 Wayne State University volleyball team have earned Academic All-District honors from College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA).
Sophomore Kayla Giroux, redshirt junior Carly Rodman, junior Ella Uganski, and senior Alexa Withun received the CSC Academic All-District recognition.
Giroux achieved First Team All-GLIAC for the second consecutive year while tying a program record with a .354 hitting percentage. She recorded 321 kills and only 85 errors on 667 total attacks. Academically, she maintains a perfect 4.00 GPA in Accounting and will advance to the national ballot for CSC members' voting.
Rodman participated in all of Wayne State's matches this season after transferring from Rochester University. The defensive specialist accumulated 176 digs with an average of 1.61 digs per set. She also holds a 4.00 GPA in Exercise and Sport Science.
Uganski saw increased playing time this season, appearing in 28 matches with 26 starts. She finished fourth on the team in kills (173) and second in total blocks (70). Her academic performance is reflected by her 3.93 GPA in Exercise and Sport Science.
Withun is the most experienced player among the four, having played in 83 matches during her tenure at Wayne State. This season she appeared in all matches with 25 starts, tallying 162 kills and ranking third on the team with 43 total blocks. She holds a GPA of 3.79 in Actuarial Mathematics.
The CSC Academic All-District® Volleyball teams recognize top student-athletes for their performances both athletically and academically across four divisions: NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA. Those selected as finalists will advance to the national ballot for CSC members' voting to determine first-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced on January 9, 2024.
