Wayne State competes at Chargers Fall Invitational

The Wayne State University men's tennis team participated in the Chargers Fall Invitational on Saturday, October 5, hosted by Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan. The round-robin tournament included teams from Purdue Northwest and the host institution.

The Warriors' lineup consisted of Cedric Drenth from Sulzbach, Germany; George Day from Southampton, United Kingdom; Sam Knowles from North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England; Tom Wasner from Altenholz, Germany; Luis Klaus from Brühl, Germany; Benjamin Hill from Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany; and Max Faniel from Theux, Belgium. These players competed in both singles and doubles matches.

In doubles action:

- Alex Miguel van Lumich Lozano and Samuel Dickson of Purdue Northwest defeated Cedric Drenth and George Day 8-4.

- Sam Knowles and Tom Wasner won against Joao Martins and Fransisco Lanusse of Purdue Northwest 9-7.

- Henry Hammond and Ellis Klanduch of Hillsdale College beat Luis Klaus and Benjamin Hill 8-6.

- Camacito and Adhirit Awal of Purdue Northwest overcame Max Faniel and Anderson with an 8-3 score.

- Luis Klaus and Benjamin Hill secured a victory over Joao Martins and Fransisco Lanusse 9-7.

In singles play:

- Cedric Drenth triumphed over Samuel Dickson with scores of 6-0, 7-5.

- George Day defeated Ellis Klanduch in a close match with scores of 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.

- Tom Wasner claimed victory against Sam Plys with identical sets of 6-3.

- Joao Martins bested Luis Klaus with scores of 6-3 in both sets.

- Adhirit Awal won against Sam Knowles with scores of 7-6, 6-2.

- Benjamin Hill prevailed over Ryan Papazov with matching set scores of 6–3.

Additional results included:

Rintaro Goda defeating Anderson after a tight match ending at 10–8 in the final set. Alex Cordero Lopez overcame Cedric Drenth by winning the decisive set. Alex Miguel van Lumich Lozano took victory against George Day after another close encounter.

Tom Wasner edged out Melaro following a tiebreaker win in the final set. Luis Klaus turned his match around to defeat Henry Hammond after losing the first set.

Sam Knowles secured his win over Ryan Papazov after dropping the initial set. Benjamin Hill emerged victorious against Camacito with a consistent performance across both sets.

Eddie Bergelin managed to get past Anderson while Max Faniel concluded his match successfully against Rintaro Goda without requiring extra games beyond two standard sets.

Next up for Wayne State is participation in the ITA Cup taking place on Thursday, October 10th in Rome, Georgia.
