The Wayne State University baseball team hosted its fifth annual home run derby fundraiser on September 20 at Comerica Park in Detroit. Reagan Paulina, a redshirt senior from Highland, Michigan, emerged victorious after defeating junior Bennett Hitzelberger in a sudden death swing-off. Both competitors had tied with ten home runs in the championship round.

The event successfully raised $44,969 through contributions from 361 donors. The first round of the competition saw Tony Hatzigeorgiou leading with eight home runs, while other participants included Logan Van Sicklen, Owen Tuccinardi, and several WSU alumni.

In the semifinals, Paulina advanced to the finals by hitting eight home runs against Hatzigeorgiou's seven. The final match was closely contested between Paulina and Hitzelberger before Paulina clinched the victory.

Wayne State head coach Ryan Kelley expressed gratitude for the support received: "This event continues to gain momentum every year," he said. "What a memorable night in downtown Detroit! A sincere thank you to so many who contributed to our student-athletes as they pursue a successful 2025."

Paulina also extended his thanks: "First off, I want to say thank you to all those who donated, your generosity does not go unnoticed." He acknowledged his teammates and supporters for their roles during the event.

Alumnus Frank Jeney reflected on the evolution of WSU baseball: "Being a part of the annual Warrior Baseball Home Run Derby at Comerica Park was a great opportunity to really experience how far WSU baseball has evolved over the years."

The event included participation from local youth programs such as Lakeside Baseball and Commerce Legends. During an on-field celebration, Kellan of Team Impact signed a National Letter of Intent with Wayne State baseball.
