Wayne State prepares for NCAA Midwest Regional against Ferris State

Wayne State University's women's tennis team, ranked No. 21, is set to participate in the NCAA Tournament's Midwest Regional on May 10 in Norwalk, Ohio. The team will face Ferris State at 2 p.m., with the winner advancing to play either Tiffin University or Northwood on Saturday.

Tiffin University is hosting this segment of the regional tournament. Matches are planned for outdoors at Norwalk High School, weather permitting. In case of bad weather, matches will be moved to Court 1 Tennis in Sandusky, Ohio. "Saturday's affair between the two winners is scheduled for a 10 a.m. first serve."

The victor from this four-team section and winners from other regions will proceed to Altamonte Springs, Florida, for the Round of 16 at Sanlando Park starting May 20.

Wayne State enters its 14th NCAA Tournament as GLIAC Regular-Season and Tournament Champions after an undefeated conference season. They previously defeated Ferris State 6-1 on April 14.

WSU received an automatic bid due to their tournament success for three consecutive seasons and holds a current ten-match winning streak with an overall record of 18-5.

In last year's tournament, Wayne State reached the NCAA Quarterfinals but lost to Hawaii Pacific. The team's performance was its best since reaching the Round of 16 in 2014.

The Midwest Regional includes seven seeded teams: Indianapolis (1), Tiffin (2), Wayne State (3), Findlay (4), Grand Valley State (5), Ferris State (6), and Northwood (7).

Projected lineup for Wayne State features Anais Ruyssen as their top singles player alongside partners such as Marta Komar in doubles events.

Recent ITA rankings placed Wayne State as No. 21 nationally with Anais Ruyssen ranked individually at No. 49 in singles and her pairing with Marta Komar ranked No. 25 in doubles.

Further updates will be available throughout the weekend on WSUAthletics.com during both men's and women's Midwest Regionals leading up to Altamonte Springs.
