The Wayne State University women's golf team stands in fifth place after the first round of the 2024 GLIAC Championships, which took place at Stonehedge North Golf Club in Augusta, Michigan. The Warriors finished Monday's round with a score of 313 (+25). Sabel Imesch from Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, led the team individually with a tie for third place, shooting a 75 (+3).
The second round is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on Saturday. To advance to the Medal Match Play Championship later that day, the Warriors need to finish within the top four teams. Wayne State has successfully qualified for match play in all previous instances it has been held.
Individually among the 43 participants, Imesch tied for third with her performance. Maisarah Hezri from Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia was tied for twelfth with a score of 77 (+5). Beca Vestman from Madrid, Spain scored a 78 (+6) and tied for seventeenth place. Clarita Laffitte from Montevideo, Uruguay was tied for twenty-eighth with an 83 (+11), while Logan Potts from Norton Shores, Michigan rounded out Wayne State’s scores tying thirty-first with an 84 (+12).
In terms of team standings after round one: Davenport leads with a score of 300 (+12), followed by Grand Valley State at 304 (+16), Ferris State at 310 (+22), and Saginaw Valley State at 312 (+24). Northern Michigan is sixth with a score of 324 (+36), Lake Superior State seventh at 332 (+44), and Purdue Northwest eighth at 347 (+59). Parkside did not qualify as they only had three individual participants.
