The Wayne State University women's basketball team experienced a setback in their recent game against Ferris State, held at Jim Wink Arena. Despite a promising start, the Warriors could not maintain their momentum and were defeated 74-64 by the Bulldogs.

The match was part of the Play4Kay Foundation initiative, which aims to unite efforts in combating cancers affecting women. Both teams participated by filling out "I Play 4" cards to honor those they support in this cause.

In the first quarter, Wayne State managed to take an early lead with a 10-0 run initiated by Taylor Thompson's lay-up. This run gave them a nine-point advantage, their largest of the half. However, Ferris State closed the gap to 16-14 by the end of the quarter.

During the second quarter, Ferris State continued to press forward, taking a narrow lead into halftime at 37-34 after Mya Hiram's buzzer-beating lay-up.

The third quarter saw Ferris State extend their lead further with Kadyn Blanchard's three-pointer pushing them ahead by six points early on. The Bulldogs maintained control throughout the period and entered the final quarter with a ten-point advantage at 58-48.

In the fourth quarter, both teams scored equally with 16 points each. Despite Wayne State's effort to close the gap towards the end of the game, they couldn't overcome Ferris State's lead, resulting in a final score of 74-64.

Ferris State shot more efficiently from both inside and beyond the arc compared to Wayne State. They also dominated in rebounds and assists while recording all ten blocked shots in the game.

Shea Tripp led Wayne State with 18 points and nine rebounds. Gabi Lutchka contributed significantly with four three-pointers as part of her twelve points. On Ferris State’s side, Kadyn Blanchard achieved a double-double with 23 points and ten rebounds.

Wayne State will now prepare for their upcoming home games against Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan next week.
