Wayne State University is set to host its final home football game of the season against Grand Valley State this Saturday at Tom Adams Field. The match, which coincides with Senior Day, will see 18 seniors recognized for their contributions to the team before kickoff at 1 p.m.

Wayne State recently ended a nine-game road losing streak with a decisive 41-17 victory over Northern Michigan. This marked their third win of the 2023 season and evened their GLIAC play record at 2-2. Historically, Wayne State has struggled in home season finales, with a record of 5-10 since 2007.

Grand Valley State comes into the game on a seven-game winning streak following an opening loss. Their offensive strength is evident as they lead the GLIAC in multiple categories, including points per game and rushing offense. Quarterback Cade Peterson remains a key player, having thrown for an average of 185.3 yards per game this season.

In recognition of Senior Day, Wayne State will honor Matt Buschman, Jacob Edelman, Maxx Fisher, Tommy Guajardo, Shavez Hawkins Jr., Gamon Howard Jr., Darrin King II, Jeff Knight, Eli McLean, Niko Mosley, Max Nicklin, Noah Nicklin, Jace Parrish, Kane Quinlan, Drake Reid, Jarrett Short, McKinley Underwood and Jayden Waddell for their dedication to the program.

Grand Valley State holds a commanding lead in the all-time series against Wayne State with a record of 38-6. Wayne State's only victory since 1985 came in November 2019 when they defeated GVSU in Allendale.

Nationally ranked fifth in fourth down conversion percentage and notable in other statistical categories like net punting and fewest penalties per game this season; Wayne State continues to make strides under challenging conditions. Coach Wheatley's team faces one of the toughest schedules in Division II football based on opponents' past performances.

As they prepare for two more opportunities against top-ranked teams—Grand Valley State and Ferris State—Wayne State looks to capitalize on these high-profile matchups to end their season positively.
