Wayne state football ends season after loss to Ferris state

The Wayne State University football team concluded its season with a loss against Ferris State University. The game ended with a score of 63-19 in favor of Ferris State, marking the end of Wayne State's first season under head coach Tyrone Wheatley. The match took place on Saturday afternoon in Big Rapids, Michigan.

In the first quarter, Wayne State initiated the scoring with a 20-yard field goal by junior Griffin Milovanski. However, Ferris State quickly responded when Mylik Mitchell connected with Tyrese Hunt-Thompson for a 75-yard touchdown pass. The Bulldogs continued to build their lead with Carson Gulker scoring on a 12-yard run.

During the second quarter, Mitchell added to Ferris State's score with a five-yard run. Milovanski narrowed the gap slightly for Wayne State with a 48-yard field goal. Despite this effort, Ferris State extended their lead again through Gulker's 10-yard pass to Xavier Wade.

Ferris State dominated the third quarter as well, starting off with Gulker's 30-yard run and continuing to score after an interception and fumble by Wayne State players.

In the final quarter, Trinidad Chambliss increased Ferris' lead further before Wayne State managed an answer through Dion Brown Jr.'s seven-yard rush. James Coby capped off Ferris' performance with another touchdown.

Ferris State led in total offense with significant advantages in both rushing and passing yards over Wayne State. For the Warriors, Jeremiah Sterling led rushing efforts while Waddell contributed both on ground and through passing despite two interceptions.

Wayne State will look forward to beginning their next season at Tiffin University on September 5th, 2024.
