Wayne State defeats Michigan Tech with strong performance

Wayne State University's men's basketball team secured a decisive victory over Michigan Tech on Thursday night, maintaining a lead throughout the game. The Warriors emerged victorious with a score of 75-61 at the Fieldhouse in Detroit.

In the first half, Wayne State established an early lead, outscoring Michigan Tech 22-7 within the first ten minutes. Contributions came from six different players, including Ray Williams Jr., Colin Golson Jr., and Carmelo Harris. The Warriors' advantage grew to 16 points before settling at a 13-point lead by halftime.

The second half saw Wayne State's largest lead reach 20 points at one stage. Despite efforts from Michigan Tech, they could only close the gap to 13 points before the final whistle confirmed Wayne State's win by a margin of 14 points.

Statistically, Wayne State dominated in rebounds, securing 40 compared to Michigan Tech's 26. They also had more opportunities at the free-throw line, converting 24-of-30 attempts versus their opponent's 7-of-13. Both teams showed similar field efficiency; however, Wayne State excelled in second-chance and fast-break scoring.

Rob Lee Jr. led the Warriors with his first career double-double, recording 21 points and 12 rebounds alongside three assists. Other notable performances included Golson Jr.'s 13 points and Harris's contribution of five key points during crucial moments.

For Michigan Tech, Marcus Tomashek matched Lee Jr.'s game-high score with his own tally of 21 points. Dawson Nordgaard added another ten for the Huskies while Pete Calcaterra contributed with five rebounds and three assists.

Wayne State is set to face Northern Michigan next on Saturday for Senior Day.
