Wayne State men's tennis advances to final day at ITA Regional Championships

Wayne State University's men's tennis team is advancing to the final day of the ITA Regional Tournament in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Warriors have shown impressive performance over the first two days, achieving an 8-1 record in singles and a 3-2 record in doubles on the second day. This brings their total to 17-4 in singles and 5-3 in doubles for the weekend.

George Day and Cedric Drenth have been key players for Wayne State, maintaining undefeated records of 4-0 in singles matches. The duo has also excelled in doubles with a perfect 3-0 record, earning them a spot in Sunday's semifinals.

In the singles Draw A round of 16, Cedric Drenth defeated Lucas Gonzalez from Grand Valley State with scores of 6-3, 7-5. Tom Wasner won against Asier Ayllon Prado from Indianapolis with scores of 6-7, 6-2, and a tiebreaker score of 10-6. George Day triumphed over Luka Kalenic from McKendree with scores of 6-1, 6-0.

During the quarterfinals, Drenth overcame Alex Van Lumich from Purdue Northwest with scores of 6-2, 6-1. However, Louis Keiner from Rockhurst defeated Tom Wasner with scores of 6-2, 6-1. George Day continued his winning streak by defeating Denys Zamaraiev from Grand Valley State with scores of 6-3, 6-3.

In Draw B's consolation rounds, Max Faniel had a successful run by defeating Pedro Diaz Camacho from Purdue Northwest and Pablo Mateos Niella from Quincy before advancing past Lorenzo Di Cursi from Indianapolis due to an injury default.

In doubles action within Draw A's round of sixteen, George Day and Cedric Drenth secured victory against Stefan Andrei and Raul Velasco Garcia from Lake Superior State with an impressive scoreline of 8-2. Luis Klaus and Tom Wasner advanced through their match via injury default against Jose Hernandez Saracho and Markos Prentits from Maryville but were later defeated by Louis Keiner and Josef Truhlar (Rockhurst) with a scoreline of 8-5 during the consolation quarterfinals.

Draw B saw Benjamin Hill and Sam Knowles win against Jack Quilty and Juan Suero (Maryville) at a convincing scoreline of 8–1 but were subsequently defeated by Ignasi Garros and Denys Zamaraiev (Grand Valley State) at an outcome reflected as being scored at 8–4 within their respective quarterfinal matchup.
