Wayne State volleyball splits matches at Midwest Regional Crossover

Wayne State University's volleyball team had mixed results on the first day of the Midwest Regional Crossover in Hammond, Indiana. The team faced a challenging start against No. 11 Missouri-St. Louis, losing in straight sets. However, they managed to bounce back later in the day with a victory over Ashland.

"Tonight was a great response after the tough match this morning," said head coach Tim Koth. "It was nice to see the team show some grit and competitive fire when it was really needed. Looking forward to seeing it again tomorrow!"

In their first match against Missouri-St. Louis, Wayne State hit .175 with 35 kills and 18 errors on 97 total attacks, while their opponents achieved a hitting percentage of .256 with 34 kills and 11 errors on 90 swings. Kayla Giroux stood out for Wayne State with an impressive .700 hitting percentage on 20 attempts, contributing significantly to her team's efforts despite the loss.

The second match saw Wayne State triumph over Ashland in four sets. Molly Miller and Kayla Giroux were key players, recording 23 and 21 kills respectively. The team achieved a hitting percentage of .360, marking their second-highest performance this fall season.

Wayne State will continue their participation in the tournament by facing Walsh on Saturday at 3 p.m. Eastern time.
