Wayne State narrowly loses season opener against Lincoln University

Wayne State University's men's basketball team started their season with a close game against Lincoln University in Missouri, ending with a 55-52 loss. Despite a strong comeback in the second half, Wayne State fell short as Lincoln secured the win.

In the first half, Lincoln took an early lead by scoring the first seven points. Wayne State's Jordan Briggs and Kevin Tamakloe narrowed the gap to 7-5. However, Lincoln responded with a dominant run, leading 24-6 at one point. Wayne State managed to cut into this lead slightly before halftime, trailing 31-14.

The second half saw Wayne State make significant progress, starting with Tamario Adley's five points. Carmelo Harris contributed crucial three-pointers and a turn-around jumper that brought the Warriors within striking distance. In the final moments of the game, Harris' free throws reduced Lincoln's lead to just one point before Xavier Ball's foul shots sealed the victory for Lincoln.

Statistically, Wayne State shot 30 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond the arc. Both teams were evenly matched at the free throw line. Carmelo Harris led Wayne State with 16 points, while Rob Lee Jr. added 14 points and Carlos Paul III grabbed 11 rebounds.

Lincoln's Xavier Ball and Tyler Chapman each scored 14 points, with Franck Yetna securing ten rebounds for their team.

Wayne State will continue their road trip with an upcoming game against the University of Indianapolis.
