Wayne State University's volleyball team secured a victory against Lake Superior State, winning in straight sets on Friday night. The match took place at the Matthaei, with Wayne State achieving a .351 hitting percentage, marking their fourth-highest of the season and third-best at home. This win brings the Warriors' overall record to 12-11 and 9-4 in the GLIAC.
Head coach Tim Koth commented on the team's performance, stating, "It was a complete match by the Warriors this evening," and praised Keilyn Carpenter for setting the tone.
The Warriors dominated Lake Superior State with scores of 25-10, 25-16, and 25-17. Wayne State's offensive efficiency was highlighted by three players achieving double-digit kills: Kayla Giroux with 13, Keilyn Carpenter with 10, and Molly Miller also with 10. Katie Smith contributed nine kills while maintaining a .350 hitting percentage.
Maya Wegand tied her career high with three service aces during the match. Other notable performances included Kayla Dulgar's 35 assists and Giroux's seven blocks. Kendyl Andrews led defensively with 14 digs.
Wayne State aims to continue their success as they face Saginaw Valley State in their final home match of the regular season on Saturday at 4 p.m., where they will honor five seniors: Molly Miller, Jenna Kray, Ella Uganski, Keilyn Carpenter, and Carly Rodman.
