The Wayne State University football team ended their season with a victory over Northern Michigan University, finishing the game 30-14 at Tom Adams Field. This win concluded their 2024 campaign with a record of 2-9 overall and 2-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

In the first quarter, Wayne State's sophomore quarterback Champion Edwards made an impactful start with an 80-yard run, marking the longest rush for the team since 2017. Following this, redshirt freshman XaVior Tyus extended the lead with his third rushing touchdown of the season.

The second quarter saw Northern Michigan narrow the gap with a touchdown by quarterback Austin Ridl. However, Wayne State quickly responded with a scoring drive that included a significant pass from Edwards to senior Myles McKatherine. Junior quarterback Rob Brazziel later connected with tight end John Rayba for another touchdown.

Wayne State's defense played a crucial role throughout the game, highlighted by sophomore defensive end Colby Horn forcing a fumble recovered by Quincy Salter. The Warriors maintained their lead into halftime after place-kicker Griffin Milovanski secured a field goal.

Despite efforts from Northern Michigan in the third and fourth quarters, including an interception by Wayne State’s Kaleb Coleman that halted a potential scoring opportunity for NMU, Wayne State remained dominant. The final score was cemented with additional field goals by Milovanski.

Wayne State's offensive stats showed strength in both rushing and passing yards totaling 442 yards compared to Northern Michigan's 303 yards. Tyus led in rushing yards while Edwards contributed significantly on both ground and air plays.

Prior to kickoff, Wayne State honored its senior players who participated in their final collegiate game. Looking ahead, Wayne State will commence preparations for Spring Ball in March before opening their next season against Tiffin on September 4th at Tom Adams Field.
