Wayne State volleyball hosts Michigan Tech for GLIAC quarterfinals

The Wayne State University volleyball team is set to host Michigan Tech in the quarterfinals of the 2024 GLIAC Tournament. The match will take place on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Detroit, with Wayne State entering as the fourth seed and Michigan Tech as the fifth seed. In their regular-season encounter on October 25, Wayne State defeated Michigan Tech in straight sets.

Head coach Tim Koth expressed his anticipation for the upcoming match, stating, "We are very happy to be hosting a GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal match this Wednesday. Michigan Tech is an outstanding team, and we are looking forward to the opportunity to play them in the Matthaei."

Wayne State has hosted a league tournament match three times in the last four seasons, with mixed results against Michigan Tech and Saginaw Valley State in previous years. Coach Koth's record in the GLIAC Tournament stands at 3-6.

In their last meeting on October 25, Wayne State demonstrated strong performance metrics, hitting .237 for the match compared to Michigan Tech's .132. Molly Miller and Kayla Giroux were key players for Wayne State, with Miller achieving her fifth double-double of the season and Giroux maintaining a high hitting percentage.

Michigan Tech enters the postseason with momentum, having won five of their last six matches. Key players include junior outside hitter Meg Raabe and sophomore setter Tess Hayes, both ranking among the top performers in their respective categories within the GLIAC.

Defensively, Michigan Tech features several players with significant contributions in digs and blocks. Head coach Matt Jennings has led MTU to consistent success in recent tournaments.

Wayne State relies on primary attackers like Molly Miller and Kayla Giroux. Giroux leads her team in kills and hitting percentage while ranking highly within national statistics. Setter Kayla Dulgar has been instrumental in orchestrating Wayne State's offense.

Defensively for Wayne State, Kendyl Andrews leads in digs while Giroux excels in blocking efforts.
