Wayne State University graduate student Kaleb Coleman has been named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. The safety from Southfield, Michigan, received this recognition following his performance in Wayne State's season finale victory over Northern Michigan.
In what was his final collegiate game, Coleman achieved a game-high 14 tackles, with 10 being solo efforts and four assisted. His defensive contributions were crucial as Wayne State limited Northern Michigan to 303 yards of total offense across 74 plays. Notably, Coleman made significant plays in the red zone. He executed a tackle for loss on a fourth-and-two at the Wayne State 17-yard line early in the third quarter and intercepted a pass in the end zone on another fourth down during the fourth period, preventing a potential score by Northern Michigan.
Over his sole year with Wayne State's team, known as the Green and Gold, Coleman accumulated 73 tackles—43 solo and 30 assisted. His stats also included seven tackles for loss, one interception, two pass break-ups, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery while starting all 11 games of the season. Coleman's total tackles ranked fifth in the GLIAC during the regular season; his solo tackles were seventh overall and his assisted tackles tied for seventh.
