Wayne State men's basketball triumphs over Davenport in league opener

Trailing by five points in the second half, Wayne State University's men's basketball team rallied to secure a nine-point victory over Davenport University. The game, which ended 76-67, marked Wayne State's first home conference opener win since 2018.

In the first half, Wayne State gained a nine-point lead with contributions from five different players. However, Davenport closed the gap to two points before taking a one-point lead into halftime.

The second half saw multiple ties and lead changes until Davenport held a five-point advantage at 50-45. Wayne State responded with a decisive 22-6 run over eight minutes. Jordan Briggs led the scoring during this period with seven points.

Wayne State shot 43.4 percent from the field compared to Davenport's 44.1 percent. A significant difference was seen at the free throw line where Wayne State converted 25 of their attempts against Davenport's ten successful shots.

Briggs scored 19 points for Wayne State, while Carmelo Harris and Carlos Paul III added 15 and 11 points respectively. Jovan Tucker led Davenport with a game-high of 22 points.

Wayne State will next face Grand Valley State on Saturday afternoon at their Fieldhouse.
